About the Department
History is often described as the dialogue between the past and the present. At S.R.T. College, Dhamri, the Department of History goes beyond the rote memorization of dates and battles. We strive to cultivate a "Historical Consciousness" among students, enabling them to understand the social, economic, and political forces that have shaped the world we live in today. Our curriculum is a comprehensive journey from the Indus Valley Civilization to Modern Global Geopolitics. We place a special emphasis on the unwritten history of the marginalized and the tribal movements of Jharkhand, teaching students to analyze sources critically—whether they are archaeological artifacts, archival documents, or oral traditions.
Vision: To be a center of enlightenment that preserves our glorious heritage while fostering a scientific temper to analyze historical events. We envision creating citizens who are rooted in their culture yet possess a broad, unprejudiced global perspective.
Mission:
Critical Inquiry: To train students to question narratives and verify facts, moving away from mythology to scientific history.
Heritage Preservation: To instill a sense of pride and responsibility in students towards the conservation of local monuments, manuscripts, and cultural traditions.
Competitive Edge: To provide in-depth knowledge of Indian and World History, which is the backbone of Civil Services (UPSC/JPSC) and other competitive examinations.
Regional Focus: To highlight the often-overlooked contribution of the Santhal Pargana region in the Indian Freedom Struggle.
