About the Department
Chemistry is often hailed as the "Central Science" because it bridges the physical sciences with life sciences and applied mathematics. At S.R.T. College, Dhamri, the Department of Chemistry is dedicated to exploring the molecular building blocks of the universe. We believe that chemistry is not just about balancing equations or handling test tubes; it is about understanding the composition, structure, and changes of matter that affect our daily lives. Our laboratories are designed to foster a spirit of inquiry, where students learn the art of synthesis and analysis with a strong emphasis on Lab Safety and Green Chemistry principles. From understanding the chemistry of the soil in our fields to the purity of water in our rivers, we train students to apply scientific knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Vision:
To evolve into a dynamic center of chemical sciences that nurtures "Molecular Architects"—students who can design new materials and solutions for a sustainable future. We aim to cultivate a scientific temper that balances technological advancement with environmental preservation.

Mission:

Fundamental Mastery: To provide a rigorous understanding of Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry, forming a strong base for research and industry applications.
Analytical Skills: To train students in modern analytical techniques and instrumentation, making them competent for quality control and forensic laboratories.
Environmental Responsibility: To promote the concept of 'Green Chemistry'—minimizing hazardous substances and developing eco-friendly chemical processes.
Societal Impact: To engage students in community service through water quality testing and soil health analysis for the local population.

Dr. Md. Atif Qaiyum
Assistant Professor
Specialization: Dr. MD Atif Qaiyum has an active research profile in Environmental Chemistry and Green Chemistry, with particular emphasis on adsorption-based water and wastewater remediation, sustainable adsorbent materials, biomass valorisation and green synthesis of nanomaterials. His research has resulted in 29 journal articles, 2 conference proceedings and 1 review article, covering the development and application of low-cost, environmentally sustainable materials for pollutant removal His research interests include adsorption technology, environmental chemistry, green synthesis of nanomaterials, biochar-based adsorbents, metal oxide nanocomposites, and sustainable wastewater treatment. His work explores the development of low-cost and environmentally friendly materials derived from agricultural and biomass wastes for effective pollutant removal. As an Assistant Professor, he is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Chemistry, curriculum development, student mentoring, laboratory instruction, academic coordination, and quality-assurance activities. He has contributed to the development of course outcomes and programme outcomes and has been involved in academic and institutional activities related to higher education.
